CSL’s Mission
The Center for Student Learning Charter School opened in 2002 as a school of choice for Pennsylvania residents as a public charter school. Our mission is to serve at-risk students who would benefit from a smaller, more personalized learning environment.
Why enroll at CSL?
CSL has a population of approximately 175 students in grades 6-12. Average class size is about 15 students. CSL’s mission is to provide a positive educational atmosphere to foster optimal academic, emotional, social, and vocational growth.
Who are CSL students?
CSL students are seeking a program outside of their larger home districts that meets them at their academic level and provides them with more opportunities for support. Many have experienced difficulty with attendance, large school/class sizes, academic struggles, and mental health concerns that have affected their progress and success.
What makes CSL unique?
CSL staff create strong bonds with students and staff to encourage a growth mindset and persevere in challenging situations. CSL has a strong post secondary readiness program that allows students to explore college, career, and military experiences in and out of the classroom. There are many support staff, connections with outside resources, and in school incentives.
How do I enroll my student(s)?
Complete the enrollment form found on the CSL website (www.cslcharter.org). An admissions representative will contact you to set up an enrollment appointment and provide you with the necessary paperwork. The enrollment forms can also be found on the school’s website along with a list of other required documents.
Does CSL provide transportation?
Transportation is provided by the student's home school district, if the student resides in a transporting district within a 10 mile radius. Families may also choose to transport their students if they are living outside of the transportation limits.
What are the school hours?
The doors open at 9:00am and students are dismissed at 3:30pm.
What are the options for breakfast and lunch?
All students at CSL qualify for the free breakfast and lunch program, which is provided by the Pennsbury School District. Students may also opt to bring their meal from home. Refrigerators and microwaves are not available for student use.
Can my student have their cell phone at school?
Students may bring their cell phone to school; however, upon entry to the building they are required to turn their device in for storage during the school day as a means of providing a less distracting academic environment and they are returned at dismissal.
What does a typical school day look like?
A brief homeroom period is followed by an Independent Study Lab period that allows students to work on assignments, seek assistance, and attend presentations. There are 6 subsequent 43 minute periods with a lunch period at 12:30.
What are the graduation requirements?
Students must accumulate 22 credits, proficient scores on the Biology, Literature, and Algebra Keystone State Exams or an equivalent graduation pathway, and successful completion of the CSL Career Pathway project and presentation.
What activities does CSL offer?
CSL offers in school and out of school college planning and career readiness trips and presentations, Student Council, community service, High School prom and Middle School dances, Field Day, etc. CSL also partners with 21st Century Learning Center grants to provide after school programs such as fishing club, robotics, environmental club, academic enrichment, baking club, game club, etc. to enhance student’s involvement.
How does CSL communicate with parents/guardians and families?
CSL takes pride in its communication with families. Students and parents are given portal access to view grades, attendance, and communicate with teachers. Additionally, families can use the Remind App to send and receive text messages from staff and administration. There is a back to school night in the fall and parent teacher conferences are available each marking period. CSL makes every effort to provide an open door policy and accommodate meetings to help address student needs as soon as they arise.
